Lead 

Mining and refining lead ore from huge quarries consumes vast mounts of energy.

Melting lead to insert into calibration weights also requires significant amounts of heat energy, and after all of this:

the weight is then very difficult to recycle at the end of it's life span. 

Here at Caliw8 we believe the use of lead in cheap calibration weights will soon come to an end. The problems that are often caused by leaded calibration weights, once they have entered the scrap metal recycling systems & furnaces, is significant. 

Lead can be removed from weights but requires heat energy or some mechanical means to extract it from within the calibration pocket. If a leaded weight enters a furnace for remelting, the lead vaporises producing vast amounts of lead oxide which is extremely toxic for anyone in the immediate vicinity but also to the local atmosphere. 

Bypass the old and start investing in the new and buy future-proof calibration weights that can be easily recycled. It will be the future. Our weights are badged with Lead Free so metal recycling plants can segregate the iron weight easily. 

The production of all manufactured goods can no longer be at the expense of the planet. Our UK made, cast iron calibration weights are (where-ever possible) lead free. The production of, and recycling of our weights, consumes significantly less energy and poses a far lower toxic hazard to the planet.
